Water Witchcraft: Magic and Lore from the Celtic Tradition (Weiser 2019)

We’ll have copies of her book available for purchase at the event.

Workshop Description:

Water is sacred; it holds within it the magic of transformation and is needed to create and sustain life. This class will take an in-depth look at how our European ancestors held water as sacred. We will dive deep into the lore and magic of the Celts and their ancestors. We will discuss a variety of different types of water bodies from the Sea and Rivers to Bogs and Lakes. Why did the Celts honor these bodies of water? Why did they find them sacred? How did these beliefs influence the practice of their descendants? We will also discuss the spirits that dwell within the water such as Lake Ladies, Water Fae and Water Gods and Goddess associated with the sacred lands of the Celts.

Following the class, we will dive deep into the realms of Thermal Springs as we discuss Sulis Minerva the Solar Goddess of the Thermal Springs in Bath UK, known for Healing. We will then connect with her sacred waters in a hands-on healing ritual connecting with sacred water, and the Goddess Sulis.

Annwyn’s Bio:

Annwyn Avalon is an initiated Priestess and Witch who’s path focuses on Water and serving the Spirits and Gods/ess that dwell within. Modern Witchcraft Classes begin registration Dec 5!

Wednesday, December 5th from 6:00-8:00: Join us for a *Free* Information and registration meeting for all seekers interested in studying Witchcraft with The Sojo Circle in 2019. Come ask questions, meet current students and teachers. We’ll provide lots of information!

We call this program Modern Witchcraft 366: The Art, Science and Psychology of Nature-Based Spirituality

This introductory 6 week class is open to adults over the age of 18. Classes are held on Thursday nights 6:00-9:00 pm beginning Jan 3, 2019.

Fees: $90 for 6 classes of the Imbolc session, paid with registration. includes 10% off Sojourner purchases for registered students, including textbooks.

What is Modern Witchcraft?

Modern Witchcraft, as it is taught at The Sojourner, is a path towards Personal Sovereignty based on wisdom, empowerment and responsibility. It stands proudly on the historical and religious foundations of our ancestors; yet, we look to the future and strive to create a healthy way of life in a modern world. We blend scientific knowledge with ancient mysticism to evolve beyond superstition into a spirituality that brings healing, peace, and balance to the seeker. The path of the witch is a dance to the rhythm of nature. This dance transforms and strengthens us, while giving us a framework for processing the lessons of this life with grace. To seek the path of the Witch is to seek enlightenment.

Imbolc Session teaches the foundations of NeoPaganism and Witchcraft: Paradigm, history, thealogy, principles, ethics, sacred poetry, and concepts of the afterlife. We’ll go on meditative journeys and demonstrate basic clearing and protection techniques. Introducing an eclectic form of self-initiatory Modern Witchcraft unique to The Sojourner Tradition. This 6 lesson class culminates in the holiday we call the Grand Sabbat of Imbolc (pronounced Im-molk) on Saturday, February 2. After that ceremony, the class is closed to newcomers for the rest of the year.

What topics will be covered?
The entire course is 48 classes divided by topic into 8 sessions. Each session is named for the solar holiday, or Sabbat, we’ll celebrate on the Saturday night following the session.

  • Imbolc session: The Foundations of Witchcraft. Paradigm, foundations, thealogy, principles, ethics, sacred poetry, afterlife.
  • Ostara session: The Elements of Magick is an introduction to magickal consciousness, energy work, in depth explorations of Spirit as Goddess and God and the four elements of earth, air, fire and water.
  • Beltane session: The Religion of Witchcraft, covers the praxis and outer temple techniques of this religious practice; altars, tools, circle casting, calling quarters, raising and directing energy, consecration.
  • Litha session: The Science of Witchcraft, covers the underlying metaphysical principles of the Universe, Hermetics, laws and mechanics of magick and how they overlap with modern sciences.
  • Lammas session: The Art of Witchcraft, Folk magick, spell crafting techniques; working with color, candle, stone, herb, oils, symbols, amulets, talismans, etc.
  • Mabon session: The Witch as Healer. Energy healing with dowsing, psychic scanning, light, color; medicinal herbalism, etc.

Happy Samhain, Sojourners!

Samhain (pronounced Sow-Wen) is the pagan holiday of high-autumn, that is most closely related to Halloween or Dia de los Muertos. It is at this time that we prepare for the coming rest of winter.  We remember our beloved ancestors at a special feast, and release fears and attachments that are holding us back. This way we can keep evolving and improving ourselves. Check out this link more information.

The precise moment of Samhain, according to astrological timing, is when the sun reaches 15 degrees of Scorpio. This year, that date falls on Nov. 7th. However, modern pagans celebrate those energetic tides anywhere from Oct. 31 through the first weeks of November.

So that our staff may celebrate this holiest day of our year, the Sojourner will close at 2:00 tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.) We hope you will understand!

We have much exciting new merchandise in the shop, including new leather journals and a restock of herbs, essential oils and natural soaps this week. Come see us soon!

Samhain Blessings,

~Heron

The Sojo News: First Friday Drum Circles, Closed Memorial Day

Happy Summer, Sojourners!

Happy Memorial Day! The shop will be closed in observance of the holiday on Monday, May 28th. We also wish Jupiter Melchizedek a very happy upcoming birthday!

Starting Friday, June 1st during the First Friday Art Walk, (6:30-until) we welcome Love Joy Drumming in partnership to host a drumming circle, free to all. When the weather is nice, find them across from the Sojourner in the grassy lot on Evans street (where the hammocks are located.) Alternate rain location is inside the Sojourner. We will be open until 9:00 during First Fridays throughout the summer.

Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap in liquid and bars – 6 scents

We are packed to the rafters in beautiful new merchandise to kick off the summer. Natural locally-made soaps, bug repellents, and bite soother spray is a must have around these parts. We’ve expanded our apothecary to include 6 scents of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soaps in both liquid and bar form.

Natural Bug repellents at The Sojourner

While you are enjoying the outdoors, remember that burning Ceremonial White sage is a deterrent to uninvited guests at the cook-out, namely the mosquitoes, and we have plenty!

Ceremonial White Sage bundles to repel banefulness of all sorts – especially mosquitoes!

Books and decks are fully stocked, and we have an abundance of beautiful statuary, including most of the Greek Gods of Olympus, and many Norse, Celtic, Hindu, Buddhist and Egyptian Deities.

Prisms, dream catchers, light catchers and wind chimes are a lovely addition to the windows and patios this season.  Lanterns, bamboo wind chimes, crystal prisms and strands of bells adorn every arbor of the shop this season!

Dream, Light and Wind Catchers at The Sojourner

Shoyeido all-natural Japanese incense is now back in stock! We have restocked favorites from their daily incense line (Including Nokiba/Moss Garden, the most popular) Kyoto Moon, Zen incense, and Jewel series, along with incense ash, bamboo charcoal, and ceramic incense bowls. We also have a new boxed incense to try, Madoka, which is formulated to produce less smoke than other incenses. This brand is truly high quality and my absolute favorite, and I have been proud to watch our selection grow over the years! You have to come try it out if you haven’t!

Shoyeido Incense restocked at The Sojourner

A note: Yes, these incenses are around $5-$6 for a standard box. They contain no synthetic ingredients or smelly charcoal/saltpeter. However: They contain 35 or more sticks per box!
