Attention, Sojourners!

apothecaryjars

Our shelves are brimming with a colorful, fragrant array of dried plants of all types after our recent restock, and we want the community to benefit from the abundance!

We are have a 40% off FLASH SALE on all of our dried herbs, roots, leaves, flowers, resins, and spices that are sold by the ounce in our bulk jars. This sale lasts through the end of the month of May, so you have until closing on May 31st to take advantage of this sale!

Want to buy herbs, but not sure what to *do* with them when you have them? You’re in luck! Check back later today for a full calendar listing of upcoming classes on herbalism, including basic medicinal herbalism and special topics on the use of herbs! They will last at least a year in an airtight jar out of the sunlight, so there is plenty of time to experiment!

jar-filled-with-dried-herbs

As always, we highly appreciate if you bring your own containers to take home your herbs! Mason/canning jars are *perfect* for this, as they can be used in a variety of ways even after your herbs are gone, and are cheap, airtight, sterilizable, and last forever and a day if you take care of them! We encourage the use and re-use of containers to cut down on waste for us, and the the waste that harms the environment in general. We will package herbs in any clean, dry container, including but not limited to:

:: Canning/mason jars. (Just had to say it again 😉 )

:: Fancy, witchy, corked glass jars.

:: Recycled food jars (Glass sauce jars are perfect! Baby food jars and spice jars tend to be too small for the full ounce that is our minimum sale, but multiple jars may work!) that have been thoroughly washed and dried. The dishwasher is perfect for sterilizing jars to be recycled!

:: Paper bags that can be sealed in some way (We can seal with tape or staples if you are okay with it.)

:: Tin cans with lids.

:: Ziploc bags.

:: Drawstring muslin/cloth bags.

:: Be creative with your recycling! As long as it is clean and dry, it counts!

As always, if you have any questions pertaining to herbalism or the use of herbs, don’t hestitate to e-mail me at Courtney@thesojo.com, or stop by when I am here in the morning for a chat! ❤ See you soon!

Her work embodies myth and the esoteric through her drawings and paintings, jewelry, talismans, and other designs. As Tempest, she has been a major pioneer of fusion bellydance for over fifteen years. Her fascination with sacred and ritual dance lead her to bellydance, and she strives to help others connect mind, body, and spirit through movement. Laura has been a practicing Modern Traditional Witch for over two decades and revels in the intersection of her various paths with witchcraft. She blogs for Patheos as A Modern Traditional Witch, Witches & Pagans as Fine Art Witchery, and contributes to The Witches’ Almanac. The Witch’s Cauldron is her first book, with a second book on sigil witchery due out in 2018. Laura resides in Seattle, Washington, with her partner Nathaniel Johnstone and at least three cats. Find out more at www.lauratempestzakroff.com

About the Book:

The Witch’s Cauldron: The Craft, Lore & Magick of Ritual Vessels

Discover the fascinating history, tradition, and modern uses of the witch’s cauldron. From blessing and using your cauldron in ritual to practicing kitchen witchery with it, this book provides valuable information for witches of all ages and skill levels. Explore the history and development of the cauldron as well as the cauldron’s role in lore and mythology. Find unconventional cauldrons already in your home and perform some old world witchery. You’ll see the possibilities of this wonderful tool are endless, and it may just become your favorite.

Workshop:
Stirring The Cauldron: A Ritual Exploration of Movement
Movement is a key element to connecting the mind, body, and spirit. The more we can shift from static to active practice, the more embodied our magick and other metaphysical experiences become. In this ritual-meets-workshop, we’ll focus on how to incorporate dance elements into your practice regardless of age, ability, experience, or tradition, using the metaphorical cauldron as our guide

Mini Concert:
The Mechanist & The Star Goddess is a dynamic music & dance project with Tempest, Nathaniel Johnstone, and Davis Petterson. They create improvised music and dance on the spot, inspired in the moment – as well songs from the repertoire of the Nathaniel Johnstone Band. The project title/inspiration evokes the exploration of the liminal space between the confines of the precise concrete world and the limitless divine. Tempest is a world-renown bellydance performer and instructor, focusing on sacred and darkly inspired fusions that pull from the traditions of North Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. She is also an artist, author, blogger, and designer (see www.lauratempestzakroff.com)

Nathaniel Johnstone is a multi-instrumentalist virtuoso (violin, viola, guitar, banjo, mandolin) whose music pulls from myth, fantasy, and folklore with a vibrant sound crosses boundaries & borders, resulting in a blend of multicultural folk rock.

Davis Petterson is an Atlanta G.A. based drummer who has performed and recorded with groups such as The Ghosts Project, Juliana Finch, The Sweet Meat Love And Holy Cult, and The Changelings.

The Sojo News!

Greetings, Sojourners!

Happy Beltane to those who celebrate it today, and in the coming weeks!<3

A lot has been happening around the shop in the past few weeks!

First of all, we’d like to introduce our newest employee: Jupiter! He is bringing to the team his expertise in Astrology, Tarot Card Reading, Yoga, Witchcraft, Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming, and Hoodoo root work. Jupiter is a seriously interesting person and I know he’ll be a big help to our customers. In addition to shopkeeping, he will be teaching classes, and is available to see clients for readings and workings. See below under events and classes for his availability for rootwork and astrology readings!

New items are in stock, with more to come! We have been busy rearranging our displays to accommodate our reorganization and product expansion, and we can’t wait for you to come and check it out. We are also phasing out of clothing sales; All of our remaining clothing items are at least 30% off, and we are selling our display mannequins too! If you are interested in the displays, please e-mail me at courtney@thesojo.com for details.

We recently received a big order of books, and one of two new orders of bumper stickers. Among the new books is Laura Tempest Zakroff’s book The Witch’s Cauldron. Laura will be here in July for a book signing and workshop! Pick up your copy soon! 🙂

The new bumper stickers are more politically current than we have had in a long while, and fill the request for more “inflammatory” points of view, to quote a few customers. We are happy to oblige! In times like these, it’s important for the world to know that there are people out there (LOTS of people) who are supporting and fighting for rights, environmental protection, equality, and peace.
